2018 – 2022, completed her baccalaureate at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica, in the Studio of Graphic and Visual Art, led by Doz. P. Ševčík. Subsequently, continued in the Free Fine  Arts programme led by Doz. P. Ševčík, Doz. R. Brun, and Doz. I. Benca. 2024, acquired her Masters Degree. 2020, in the Most Beautiful Books of Slovakia Competition, received the Slovak National Library Prize for her student work – a book of her own entitled Ideas That Cast a Shadow. Apart from painting, she is engaged in book illustration, graphic art and design. As a debutant in the Painting Competition in 2023, she won 3rd Prize. Alexandra Hrehová has a long-term artistic engagement with family stereotypes and questions of personal identity. Her art proceeds from introspective examination of her own experience, via which she reflects the process of dealing with personal traumas, as well as social expectations and pressures linked with female identity. In her works she constructs a personal mythology, with intersecting themes of mental health, gradual awareness of one’s own value and the quest for love of self. In all of this, intimate testimony naturally blends with broader social issues, giving her works a more universal character.  Critical reflection on popular folklore, which had a notable formative influence on her adolescent years, is an important line in her work. Using satire and irony, she identifies stereotypes, norms and value frameworks that are recurrently reproduced, while confronting them with her own experience and contemporary thinking about identity, gender and the freedom of the individual.  

Hrehová’s points of departure, as sketched here, are fully manifested in her final entry I Am Not Dying in a Burning House (2026). The charged atmosphere of the painting thematises fortitude at a time of complete chaos. According to the author, the painting symbolises a cleansing from destructive patterns transmitted across family history and indicates a process of interruption of inter-generational trauma. Fire appears as a symbol of destruction and suppressed anger, but also radical change. Linked with the motif of the house, however, she also opens up the question of whether remaining in a familiar though toxic environment does not represent a greater risk than stepping forth into uncertainty. The burning house thus becomes a metaphor for a space that can no longer be preserved but must be abandoned. The central feminine figure, dressed in folk costume and muffled in a scarf, is going away from the burning house and making straight towards the viewer. This quite urgent appeal, monochromatically presented, but contrastingly enriched with a striking colour emphasis in the form of the scarf and a ribbon in the hair, represents the characteristic means whereby Hrehová builds up the emotional tension of her paintings.
