Kandriková Kristína

Last rays

2023, acrylic on clear film, 190 x 130 cm

In the years 2011 - 2017, she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, in the Painting Studio of Doc. Klaudia Kosziby. In 2016, she completed an internship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk, at the department of painting with prof. Piotr Józefowicz. Since then, she has exhibited regularly and, in addition to numerous group exhibitions, she has also realized several individual exhibition projects in the Czech Republic and Slovakia (New Synagogue in Žilina, Galerie XY Olomouc, DEPO2015 Plzeň, Galéria Medium in Bratislava, Nástupište 1-12 Topoľčany). Kristína Kandriková's relationship to painting is based on a strongly experimental approach. It takes place on several levels - formal, performative, but also technical or ritual. The diverse procedures he uses are consciously aimed at freeing himself from all distractions. The author tries to use the ideal state of a blurred mind especially during the creation process itself. Abstract paintings and spatial installations are based on landscape and natural motifs, they refer to the poetics of light and shadow, the fading of light at dusk or its shining through the crowns of trees. Kandriková works with the variability of lighting conditions and atmospheres in the landscape, fleeting changes in color and mood. She is fascinated by the investigation of painting in its formal essence (technical and physical side, processuality), following the "classical" painting space, from which she likes to step towards 3D; as she is primarily interested in the extent to which it is necessary to limit painting or, on the contrary, keep it clean as part of the environment. The final work Posledné rúče (2022) is painted on transparent foil, exists in a direct relationship with light, reacts "lively" to the light conditions of the space and increases in intensity accordingly. Just as the last rays of the sun of the day penetrate the dark treetops, natural light penetrates the film and makes the pigment glow. Through her lyrical works and personal experiences, Kandriková portrays the essence of the landscape, reminds us of the importance of coexistence with nature and non-violently points out environmental issues. In painting, he thematizes a strong relationship with nature, as well as his own, unique experience. Under the "surface" of the painting, it allows us to look inside - on the material ("skin of the painting"), but also on an emotional level. It conveys memories, feelings and records from our own recognition (or recollection) - it provides us with free space to feel.
