Vrbovská Dušana

To come to light

2023, acrylic and oil on canvas, 80 x 118 cm

In the years 2013 - 2017, she studied at the Studio of classical painting disciplines of prof. L. Holožu at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica. Subsequently, in the years 2018-2019, she completed her master's studies at the Open Painting Studio of doc. R. Form. In 2016, she completed a study stay at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art, at the Painting Studio of Aleš Ogoun. In 2018 and 2023, she was a finalist in the Painting competition. The work of Dušana Vrbovská reveals a special interest and commitment to a clearly defined program. It is based primarily on the need to observe and explore the surrounding world, while the starting point of interest is a fascination with nature and its cyclic events - a permanent cycle of birth and demise, fragility and at the same time the power of being. With his painting, he tries to point out the transience of nature, its dying, which, however, carries the seed of further growth. The purposeful recording of sections of the landscape, especially views of fallen leaves or withered bouquets, is in some ways extremely moving. Concentrated attention, receptivity and sensitivity are the pillars of Vrbovská painting, in addition to the extraordinary coloristic quality. The final painting Come to the Light (2021) depicts the moment when the light falls on the flower and thus finds itself on an imaginary "highlight". At the same time, it shows "overcoming (overgrowing) darkness", which is symbolic for the author a reminder of our inner strength and courage, as a counterpoint to fear or doubt. The author chooses "ordinary" natural scenery, which often remains hidden from the human eye, but gives them additional, deeper meanings through painting. He finds motifs in his surroundings - during walks in nature, but also "accidentally" in everyday life. The starting point is the collected material (flowers, leaves, twigs), but also your own photos. Thus, Vrbovská's painting still retains a certain documentary character. On the formal side, she works through the method of mimetic display, but the range of individual painting approaches is wide in her case - from realistic display to almost abstract position. It is important for her to explore her own painting possibilities and limits. That is also why he combines oil painting with new techniques - he uses airbrush, blurring or changing the color tonality. Its main goal is to direct the viewer to pay attention (to nature), slow down, be sensitive to the world, but also to oneself.
