Durajová Barbora
Idyll
2023, oil on canvas, 150 x 110 cm
In the years 2016 - 2022, she studied at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica at the Faculty of Fine Arts in the Liberal Arts program, in the Painting program at the STARTUP Studio with docent Ján Triaška. In 2022, she was a finalist in the Painting competition. In her work, Barbora Durajová focuses on the theme of the "village idyll", which she portrays through constructs created by combining fragments of the environment, figurative compositions and the landscape. Her main inspiration is the village and its basic cell - the yard. The author is based on her own experience of growing up in this environment, which shaped her and which she can analyze from a distance. She approaches the issue through a synthesis of knowledge from anthropology, ethnology and sociology. It is important that she deals with the topics in the background of her own experience, while it is clear that she is clearly aware of the limits of the depicted environment - those and mentally. The final work Idylla (2022) captures an ordinary scene - the silhouette of a woman who, on a sunny day, performs a certain, not entirely obvious, activity in the "open air". We don't know if it's hanging laundry, wrapping yourself in a sheet after swimming in the pool or something else entirely. In this composition, Durajová works with several classic painting themes. As part of the primary conflict covering - uncovering, the question of simulating the act (classical antiquity), but also of the drapery itself, arises. However, the hidden secret does not have erotic connotations here. Although the author wanted to capture the moment of a woman's body, which is covered but at the same time reveals a lot, her motivation is deeper. It covers the topics of home, countryside and culture. The tension stems from the banality, from the everyday reality that seemingly provides a sense of security. It is against the background of this ambivalent scene that the determining conflict of the present time emerges in front of the viewer - fear of the unknown and rejection of the other.
