Since 2016, he has been studying painting in the Open Studio of Rastislav Podoba at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica. The painting program of Miroslav Sandanus is determined, clearly defined. The author remarkably works with environmental topics - he is fascinated by landfills, waste, climate change, the destruction of the planet - an urgent issue that is perceived by the young generation as extremely urgent and important at the same time. Sandanus expresses himself through realistic painting, while his works aim to draw the viewer into the flow of the author's thoughts. They show us how the artist observes the world and the events around him, what fascinates him, but especially how he cares about nature. Sandanus paints suggestively - especially his cycle of paintings from the environment of landfills, where he also works with the human figure or its fragments, can be considered an extremely impressive contribution to a topic that is becoming increasingly important for young painters not only in their personal lives, but also in visual representation . The dominant motif of the competition painting Emptiness (2020) is nature. Unfortunately, not in its original form, but after the intervention of human activity, which permanently destroys it at regular intervals. The initial inspiration of the author is concrete logging sites, broken trees, withered branches, but also discarded waste in the landscape. In his works, he captures exactly that moment of human carelessness, which probably most clearly manifests the presence of man in the natural framework. The picture points to the current problems of our time - it shows us the clear origin of the burden that not only the planet has to deal with, but especially ourselves.
