Hroššová Dajana
Animal ambition
2023, acrylic on canvas, 180 x 150 cm
Since 2019, he has been studying at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica, at the Department of Painting, at the STARTUP Studio under the guidance of doc. Trembling. In 2022, she completed a study stay at the Academy of Arts in Ostrava, at the Department of Painting, in Atelier Malba 2, under the guidance of doc. Kowolowski. Dajana Hroššová, the debutant of the competition, deals mainly with figurative scenes in her work. The provocative themes he works on are inspired by pop culture, hentai or the visuality of folk culture. In her works, she reflects her own feminist beliefs, and works significantly with sexuality and physicality. The female figures that are the central motif of many of her paintings have an archetypal character; they are based primarily on mythology - sometimes directly, sometimes only by hint. The author, as a representative of generation Z, in many ways considers herself a product of mass and popular culture. The (self) presentation on social networks (instagram) also corresponds to this, which, in addition to the artistic work, also shows the author herself and her visual styling. The final painting Animal Ambition (2021) explores the harsh reality of our society through a powerful visual parable. The girl who becomes part of a pack of hyenas eating a corpse in the desert is actually a self-portrait of the painter herself. The motif emphasizes the theme of survival, referring to the saying "eat or be eaten" - a narrative that Hroššová perceives as often repeated within our social fabric. Hyenas symbolize the predatory nature rooted in society, the relentless struggles faced by individuals who must constantly to move in a world where the weak and vulnerable become prey. It seems that in today's world, a person has to accept/show a certain animality in order to survive, to be accepted, to become a member of the group a certain moment of pleasure, challenge or attraction is also present.Satisfaction in the brain, associated with the production of dopamine, arises not only with food or sex, but also as a response to an aggressive experience.
